The Right Rev. Frederick Hugh Wilkinson MM (3) ED MA BD DD LLD DCL was born at Dartmouth Nova Scotia, son of Frederick Wilkinson and Jennie Jones (Reid) Wilkinson, both of Toronto Ontario. He was educated at Jarvis Collegiate, Toronto and at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto where he obtained his BA (1922) and his MA (1924).

In WW1, from 1916 to 1919 he served, in France with the 10th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 4th Division. He was wounded on September 27th 1918 and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery, on 3 different occasions. He also received the Efficiency Decoration (ED) from the Canadian Armed Forces.

After WW1, Right Rev. Wilkinson began a distinguished career in preaching the Christian religion in the Church of England, when he received his Bachelor of Divinity (BD) degree, in 1928, from the General Synod of the Church of England.

In 1955 he was appointed Bishop of Toronto. He acted as Chaplain for several Canadian Regiments. In September 1923 he married Margaret Madeleine Harkness. They had two children; Peter Frederick Francis Wilkinson and Joan Madeleine Wilkinson.
